Last year, at the 24 hour Megaswim (as it was known), the TAS SWIMMER TEAM had only 5 members, but still managed to raise the highest average money per person , and swim the most laps (about 86 km in 24 hours). It was down to a point where it was only two people (myself and Mark) swimming from 11:00 at night to about 3:30 in the morning - in freezing cold weather.
This year, we are recruiting more swimmers, will raise more money, and will swim more laps, all for those with MS! That's the goal, anyway. As the senior members of TAS swimming club, we are aiming for the National record in distance, as well as raising as much money for the cause as possible.
This is such a great cause, a good excuse to have fun and something that everyone really enjoys doing. So goodluck to our team, and thanks to those who sponsor us, and I just can't wait for the night of the event! :)

We are taking part in the Cairns MS Swimathon 2012 in order to raise much-needed funds for Queenslanders living with multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is the most common disease of the central nervous system and affects more than 21,000 Australians.
Did you know?
- Today five more Australians will be told they have multiple sclerosis
- The average age of diagnosis of MS is just 30 years
- MS affects three times as many women as men
The MS Society aims to minimize the impact of multiple sclerosis on all individuals affect by the disease, as well as their families, carers and the community by offering a wide range of services, equipment and support. The MS Society's goal is to assist everyone affected by MS to live life to their fullest potential and secure the care and support they need, until we ultimately find a cure.
